Community Impact
The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. (JLG) was founded in 1929 by a group of 20 women with a passion for serving the Greenville community. Today, we are a vibrant group of over 1,100 women who are still passionate about volunteering and helping to make our community an even better place.
The JLG has been an integral part in contributing to the founding of several significant community organizations including the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, Pendleton Place for Children and Families, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, and the Warehouse Theatre.
Additionally, the JLG has supported more than 300 different agencies, awarded nearly $3 million dollar in grants, and provided countless hours of volunteer service during our 95+ year history.
The Junior League of Greenville engages in initiatives that strive to meet the critical needs of the greater Greenville area. The Pillars of these initiatives shall be:
Advancing Education & Culture
The Junior League of Greenville believes that education is the key to unlocking every child’s potential. By promoting access to quality learning and embracing cultural diversity, we want to empower future leaders to thrive in a global society. Every child deserves a classroom that inspires curiosity and confidence, and cultural understanding builds bridges. We support programs that celebrate and foster inclusive learning environments. We support education initiatives that help advance women and empower girls for community change, and we nurture leadership, confidence, and opportunity.
Improving Health & Well-Being
The Junior League of Greenville believes that a healthy community is a thriving community. We believe in championing preventive care, mental wellness, and healthy lifestyles to ensure everyone can live, learn, and work to their fullest potential. Healthy children learn better, and healthy adults lead stronger families, and strong families build communities. We want to invest in programs that promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being. We believe that wellness is a foundation for empowerment, and we uplift those who care for others-because caregivers deserve care too.
Mitigating Crisis & Promoting Safety
The Junior League of Greenville recognizes safety and crisis intervention as an integral factor to the well-being of our community. We want to work to ensure our community is equipped to prevent, respond to, and recover from crises because safety is the foundation of stability. We stand with survivors and support systems that protect the vulnerable. We prioritize the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of women and girls because readiness today means resilience tomorrow.
Overcoming Poverty & Financial Instability
The Junior League of Greenville believes economic security is essential for dignity and opportunity. We support pathways to employment, financial literacy, and long-term stability for women and families. We believe that financial empowerment transforms lives and strengthens communities, and we want to invest in tools and trainings that help people have second chances and sustainable futures.
