Position Statements

  1. CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. is committed to ensuring that children and family units have the opportunities and services essential for physical, intellectual, emotional, mental, and social well-being and will advocate for such opportunities and services.”
  2. GREENVILLE: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. recognizes the downtown area of Greenville to be an increasingly vital business, social and cultural center for the city and outlying areas of our county.  The quality of life is enhanced by its aesthetic value, its cultural and historic impact, and its business growth.  The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. supports development and redevelopment efforts working for the positive growth of Greenville’s central area.  This focus has been expanded to include redevelopment of the Pleasantburg corridor, in conjunction with moving our Headquarters and the Nearly New Shop to their current locations.”
  3. SUBSTANCE ABUSE: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. defines substance abuse as the misuse of drugs including alcohol and other substances.  The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. recognizes the problems associated with substance abuse.  As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life in our community, we support measures aimed at the prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance abuse.”
  4. VOLUNTARISM: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc., whose purpose is to promote voluntarism, to develop the potential of its members of voluntary participation in community affairs, and to demonstrate the effectiveness of trained volunteers, supports and promotes voluntarism as an essential component of our society.”
  5. PUBLIC EDUCATION: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. supports and will strive to promote programs, policies and concepts which will further the development of quality education in our schools.”
  6. OLDER ADULTS: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. is committed to ensuring that older adults have the opportunities and services essential for their physical, intellectual, mental, social, and economic well-being and will advocate to see that such opportunities and services exist.”
  7. THE ENVIRONMENT: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. recognizes that the condition of the environment and our natural resources are essential to survival of our planet, economic stability, and overall quality of life.  Therefore, the Junior League of Greenville, Inc., supports and will strive to promote an equitable balance between environmental and economic interests and is committed to support measures toward the achievement of that goal.”
  8. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: “The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. is committed to eliminating violence against children and/or spouses within the home by supporting programs and legislation designed to understand the problem, assist and protect the victims, and work effectively with the abusers.  The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. supports and promotes the following:
    • That every spouse has the right to a marital relationship free from physical and/or psychological abuse;
    • That efforts are needed to increase public awareness of the problems of child and spousal abuse;
    • That every victim will have access to effective services to help solve family problems caused by spousal abuse;
    • That every victim will have access to prompt and effective emergency services to meet their needs during a crisis situation
