Greenville’s rapid growth has brought many benefits to the community, as well as some intense challenges. One of those challenges, which is often considered to be reserved for larger markets but not somewhere like Greenville, is human trafficking. With the nature of this underground industry, it means that our community is still uncovering just how pervasive this issue is for women in Greenville. The JLG is partnering with Jasmine Road, Switch, and the Julie Valentine Center. Jasmine Road and Switch have been pioneers in helping to address human trafficking in our community. The Julie Valentine Center’s mission is to stop sexual violence and child abuse and the impact of these crimes through prevention, investigation, collaboration, treatment and advocacy and aligns with our human trafficking focus area. The Community Enrichment Committee is providing trained and skilled JLG volunteers to support these organizations as they continue to grow and scale to meet this need.
